Strengthening Multiracial Relationships

Loving across cultural differencees

Our communication of thoughts, feelings, needs, and expectations in close relationships are automatically influenced by the cultures we grew up with.   We just can’t help it.  We want to stay connected, loving, but keep getting disconnected by cultural differences.

Sometimes communication goes sideways, and we just need some help to understand our loved ones.

One of my strengths is to help people understand cultural and generational backgrounds, teach you how to meet halfway, and provide you with culturally sensitive tools to have healthier communication and closer connections with the ones you love most.

Honoring Our Pioneers

Many of us come from pioneering immigrants who braved the seas to come to America, self-sacrificed, worked incredibly hard so that succeeding generations could thrive and prosper. We love and honor those who paved the way for us to be able to live in America.

If you are a person of color, you might be wondering:

  • Who am I, and where do I fit in?

  • My parents and grandparents come from the old country, but I was born here—which culture should I embrace and still be me?

  • What do I do when I am bullied, shamed, or rejected because of the color of my skin?

  • What do I say when I am singled out solely because of looking “beautiful and exotic” or being “the smart Asian kid?”

I can teach you how to

  • Learn to embrace the cultural values that you love and to respectfully let go of those that don’t fit you.

  • Identify and get rid of false shame and guilt put upon you by society.

  • Learn to love and accept yourself. Be proud of who you are.

  • Use humor to find joy again!

  • Learn how to respectfully communicate with your loved ones and with your amazing elders.

As a second generation Japanese-American I understand Asian culture very well!

I know first-hand how scary, confusing, and ugly racism can be on all levels. It’s confusing to feel “different” from mainstream culture, to feel like you don’t fit in, to be rejected, bullied, and discriminated against or fawned over because of your appearance. Maybe you feel like you’re living with one foot in the U.S. and one foot in the old country.

If you want to discover who you really are, where you belong, and feel better about yourself, I’m here to help!

I can help you find the “real you” with a positive view of multiracial cultures, coach you how to be assertive, address microaggressions and outright bullying and racial discrimination in ways that fit your own cultural values and personality.
